About Us

Built by hand, in a real workshop, by people who care about the surface.

Harrow Flint is built around a simple idea: the frame is made in Australia, but the heart of the canvas is the linen. We use Belgian linen because it is regarded as some of the finest quality available for serious painting surfaces.

That linen is then prepared by hand using museum-grade gesso methods that have been handed down through generations. The process is slow, tactile, and rooted in traditional knowledge rather than industrial shortcuts.

The result is a canvas for painters who care about the quality beneath the paint: the timber support, the linen surface, and the ground that shapes how every mark is received.

Craftsmanship

Australian-made frames built to support a serious painting surface.

Every Harrow Flint frame is made in Australia. Timber components are measured, cut, and prepared with attention to fit, stability, and clean joinery so the support remains dependable over time.

That local frame-making process matters because a fine Belgian linen surface deserves a support built with the same level of care.

Gesso Options

Two traditional museum-grade grounds, each with its own character.

Glue Gesso

A traditional glue-based ground with a balanced absorbency and a beautiful matte surface. It is well suited to fine detail, realism, oil painting, and carefully layered techniques.

Egg Gesso

A museum-grade traditional ground using egg as part of the binder system. It creates a refined, highly responsive surface ideal for precise, layered, and classical painting methods.

Handed Down Through Generations

Both gesso approaches come from traditional knowledge passed down through generations, preserving methods valued for their museum-grade quality, archival intent, and painterly control.

Why artists choose Harrow Flint

Belgian linen, Australian-made frames, and traditional grounds in one surface.

Each canvas brings together three essentials: a carefully made local frame, premium Belgian linen, and a choice of glue or egg gesso. The result is a surface shaped for serious painting and long-term durability.

"Craftsmanship, control, and archival quality."
